House wrap for cedar shingle house?
I’m remodelling my house and it will be sided with Cedar Shingles. I’m not going to be doing this myself, I’ll be hiring the job out. I have a few questions for you pros out there.
What are the opinions on wrapping the house if I will be shingling it with Western Red Cedar? I live in the Northern California Bay Area. Tyvek, Typar, Felt/tar-paper?
Also, does anyone have thoughts about Cedar Breather, it their website says that if its used, there’s also no need for furring strips. Lastly, here is a picture of what our vision of the finished product will look like. Thanks everyone.

Home slicker (for the walls) or straping is a good idea. Ordering the shingles dipped is even better, do both, thats the best.
If you put bare cedar siding against tyvek the tanins will turn the house wrap into dust in a few years.

I'm somewhat confused by the Bejamin Obdyke product-line, they don't seem to provide any guidance on which product should be used for what.. Their Cedar-Vent product looked like the right product for cedar siding when combined with Typar or Tyvek. Now I'm also looking at their Home-Slicker with Typar. Why would Home-Slicker be better. It seems that Cedar Vent would allow the installation of shingles without furring strips which I am hoping would offset some of the costs of using the Cedar Vent.As for the shingles, I will definitely want factory sealed shingles. If I provide the shingles, I'm looking at the Cedar West/Cabot Clear Solutions shingles from "Build Direct".-A confused woodworker in a foreign forum....
Cedar breather ( maybe they have changed their product names) was for roofs and rain slicker for walls.I don't see a need for it under cedar shingles predipped on walls. A walll has extremely limited water entering it, and shingles do allow for some breathing and evaporation. If you are right on a spot where you expect a lot of wind driven rain, maybe. The roof product is well worth while

Piffin,Being that this is my own house... I don't seem to have an issue of it being somewhat over engineered, so what do you think of the all-in-one Home Slicker/Typar product? But it also sounds like you have a preference for Tar Paper.
No opinion on it really. When we used Rain slicker, the guys on the crew felt like it took too much time. Also, the way we wrap and lap the wraps and vycor at window opennings, I see difficulty.Look into Greengaurd for this job
