How About a Party?

buildit4you | Posted in General Discussion on October 26, 2002 03:38am

It’s Friday evening, my wife and 17 yr. old daughter are off to a “Mary Kay” party, I’m home with the boys…(14 yr. olds) and I can only take so much of “Madden 2002”.

Hey, what with cosmetics, Lonenberger baskets and tupperware parties, has anybody thought of having a tool party. Give me some help……. any thoughts.

Lars says sign him up. To be honest you may have something here. Will be interesting to see what the rest of the gang here thinks. Christmas is around the corner. Do you think you can get this worked out fast? I can see this being HUGE!!!!!!!!

Years ago, I got stuck being one of the husbands at a tupperware party at a house in Navy family housing.  The sales rep was also the hostess and she would give out strings of plastic pearls to anyone who placed an order.

Her husband sneaked a whole box of these "pearls" out on the front porch and we spent the evening drinking beer, dismantling the necklaces  and using the pearls for slingshot ammunition.  The projectiles were non-lethal but we eventually got a visit from one of the Base Shore Patrolmen responding to complaints of projectiles bouncing off cars.  Turns out his wife was attending the party, so our reprimand was not particularly harsh and was delivered with a smirk.

Of course, as soon as he left, we got back to work....there was a lot of ammo in that box!

But they already have tool parties: haven't any of you guys gone to a "pro's day" at your local tool outlet ? Free hot dogs. Bunch of factory reps show up and set up demo tents. Demonstrations & hands-on. Couple of tool draws. Even HD and Building Box have these events..

I went to a dewalt show , and got to look at a girl in a yellow bikini , someone mentioned beer .

WE can always use more parties.

Ah football, many construction sites around here fell silent during the world cup - it was erie. And the last thing the tool reps want is an audience who isn't watching..

Where I live, probably half the tradesmen are immigrants and another 25% are 1st generation - soccer's the big game among these folks. Soccer's also one of the games of choice in schools and junior leagues - "rugby" football is a dieing sport here..

It's not exactly what you asked for, but my church has carried a tradition for several years now.  When a couple gets married there's always a shower for the bride, we decided to do something for the groom.  We have a tool party.  You have to buy the groom a tool, eat some food, watch a football game.  Something that has developed over the years is creative wrapping:  duct tape, tarps and chains, soldered, anything to make it hard to open up.

          5. FastEddie1 | Oct 29, 2002 02:40am | #13

Phill...what?  Half your tradesmen are ignorants and 25% are degenerates?  I'm surprised to hear you talk like that.

FWIW, there was an item on tv recently, during the ratings week of course, about all the knee injuries that high school kids are suffering from soccer.

I had thought of the tupperware party idea about a year ago, but people I mentioned it to said I was nuts.  (Well, I am, but that's not pertinent.)  Why wouldn't it work to cut a deal with Lee Valley to get some demo tools or loaners or something and get the guys together one evening?  Even better, get the wives over one evening about a month before Christmas, have the tools shipped to my house, I'll gift wrap and store them until the day before Christmas.

Hey maybe we can get Gunner to put on that fancy tool belt of his with his spike heel work boots and have Newf dress up  for us with something in leopard then I think we'll have a real tool party, I bet my mak rep would even show up for that one.

At Darkworks cut to size made to burn......Putty isnt a option

You get Heidi from "tool Time" to show the tools, and I'm there.

Ever notice how fast Windows runs? Neither did I.
