GOOP.
It is a giant can of wood filler, specially designed for floors.
Contact a wood flooring supplier to find it.
Put a TV in the room while you do the work, so you dont notice the distances your putty knife travels. Lets see, 12' x 25' room, divided by 2" strips, equals...oh my, 72 strips...times 25' equals... 1800 feet!!!
See what I mean?

I haven't paid real close attention to the exact formula, but the sander that does my work uses a combination of a thick sort of sealer and the dust from his last sanding to make a thick mayonaise consistency stuff he trowels over the whole floor. He lets that set and then does his final sanding. Thje beauty is the tone of the stuff matches the floor very well. For what it's worth.

I've seen it done as Steve describes, but I don't know the formula. I use qt sized cans of Famowood with a can of Famowood solvent on the side. I trowel it over all joints, usually using an old 4" drywall joint knife. It takes some time on your knees but the results are worth the effort.

Don please dont forget your breathing apparatus!
The special wood putty used is thinned with a solvent depending on the mfgr.So make sure you have good ventilation and at least a 6" putty knife, you'll have to trowel the stuff on the entire floor[45min max],let it dry[30 min]and then come back with the drum sander with 120 grit open face sand papper, don't get discouraged.
good luck
