OK, I’ve gotten all the field shingles on the hip roof of my shed, but I need to know how to get the hip caps to run up the hip straight, with the same amount on either side of the hip. I tried snapping a line but i wasn’t too successful. Anyone have any suggestions?

Cap,
Lay a cap on the hip at the top and bottom of the roof, centering the cap so that an equal amount of cap runs on both sides of the hip......you can measure or eyeball it to center it. Mark the edge of the cap at the bottom of the roof and also at the top. Snap a line and run your caps to it. It is no more complicated than that.

Thanks...never thought about your method...I guess sometimes the simple answer isn't always apparent.

you can do as the Proff suggests.
I just have always just eyeballed it with never a complaint from anyone. Kinda hard to see if a ridge cap is off here or there a 1/4" or so (if that)

I always eyeball the first one, as was suggested earlier. Then I kinda follow the little notch that's centered above each tab on the shingles. Just keep the notch kinda centered on the ridge as you go up, and keep the lower end lined up with the edge of the tab below it. Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition.
Some of the new ridge cap "accessories" don't have that notch in the center.
