How do you solder galvanized sheet metal

Have a project coming up where I need to do this. I know you use a propane torch and “killed muratic acid”, but really how is it done?
Propane torch, plumbers flux and solder that I use when soldering copper pipe?
Thanks

don't use a torch -- find some old soldering irons and use the torch to heat them.
If using a torch, the zinc galvanizing is harfmul when vaporized.... very harmful... as in it kills lung tissue immediately.... from what I understand.
The muriatic acid is likely used to remove the zinc so you can get a good bond to the metal.
Use an acid flux... same stuff used for plumbing I believe and then any lead should do... same as used for plumbing again.
I've never doen it myself but based on some basic that I do understand, I am making educated guesses.
I'm sure if I am wrong, someone will be by soon to let us know.

I hope the lung tissue returns. I welded and burned a lot of galvanized stuff in my late teens and early twenties. Bob's next test date: 12/10/07
as bad as yur kidneys are from all that welding....
the lungs are only a minor bump in the road....

The worst pain is from the MRI bill every time I send in the payment. Bob's next test date: 12/10/07
well then...
it's obvious...

It was a stupid thing to do. They don't help a bit but they cost a lot of money. Bob's next test date: 12/10/07

I've been lazy about my rehab routine, so I only have myself to blame. Lately, I've start swinging the golf clubs (short chipping game only) so I'm doing a little better. I was getting numbness on both legs last week but I've restarted my exercises from the book Pain Free. It helps immediately. Bob's next test date: 12/10/07
try the Williams exersizes....
they work and are really low impact...

Don't use a torch - use a copper as Walter advised. You'll need muriatic for flux on the galvanized and zinc chloride (killed muriatic) to tin the copper. 50/50 solder is appropriate and DO NOT breathe the fumes as Pete advised.

Who got Bo Diddley's money?
An a Classic This Old House from about 4-5 years ago they where installing some lead coated copper shingles. This was a 1/2 dome with a bellshape. So it was a large number of small shingle with interlocking edges that they hammered down and then soldered.I was surprised that they where using a tourch. But the load coating does make it easier to solder..

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Yeah, I've seen that episode. They also had their flat seams pans locked uphill so the water would run in if the joints weren't soldered. If they'd locked them downhill that dome wouldn't have needed any soldering. Everything that guy knew was wrong.http://grantlogan.net
