Was just wondering if anybody had any long term experience with how well the new acrylic tubs hold up? I’m looking at cast iron for $800, for that much i can get one of those new jacuzzi type tubs, but they are acrylic. I have a feeling that surface might not hold up for as long as enamel. THis tub is getting tiled in place and i’d hate to have to take it out in 10 years. maybe 50. What do you think?

To prevent moisture buildup and improve performance, install a continuous air barrier—such as drywall or specialized membranes—under tongue-and-groove boards or other interior wall paneling.

Put one in my guest bath. A nice kohler unit. Didn't feel like hauling C.I. up the stairs. Held up fine through the construction phase, but the boss lady decided to bathe the dog (75 lbs. of boxer "pup") in it one day. In the right light you can see toe nail scratches. I wouldn't use one in a bath that sees regular use. I would probably think about americast or cast iron.
*12 yrs, regular use, no dog washing, protected during construction, lasco 1 pc. Looks like new. Other brand (fibreze or something like that), in tiled deck, looks good too. Both of these, different care than Cast. Was it worth it? So far I'd think yes. Will cast last longer? With proper care, probably. Most cast tubs I replace are a good 60-80yrs old. and have seen some miles. Price usually makes a diff. Install might be a fuzz more, so you're really looking at the material costs only. You be the judge.
*Am pondering amid a mild buzz from a great auslese how one ascribes a long term experience with a new tub.
*I also use Lasco tubs.I've been happy with them through the years. The way i look at it is ,if you are creating damage to them then you'r doing something they were'nt designed for ie:washing dogs and claws in them.
*I am designing a cabin to build in the Upper Pennisula of Michigan and I want to use Vinyl casement windows and sliding doors. Can you give me advice on the quality of vinyl windows you have used or tell me where to find comparisons? I am looking at Simonton, Certainteed, and Solaris out of Canada. Thanks,Ed
