I’ve been so busy this year I haven’t had time to post any pictures of my project. This is the first house I’ve built. I’m the homeowner and I contracted it myself. View Image
I’ve done a good majority of the work myself. Designed it, worked along with the framing crew since we were using SIPs and they had never used them. I installed the radiant tubing for the floor, all the low voltage, cable, phone wiring, ventilation system, windows, doors, siding and trim, garage doors/openers,and I’ll be doing all the trimwork and cabinets and flooring.
We had planned on framing in October but weather didn’t play nice and the lot flooded so we didn’t even start pouring concrete til December. Lost another month due to flooding in May. I knew about the flood issues going in so no big surprise there other than it had never happened in October and never twice in one year. guess I jinxed myself.
It’s been a busy year and not without problems but I think I’ve done pretty well considering I worked a full time job 1000 miles away while building it.
I’ll try to get some more pictures up soon.

Congratulations Tom...looks like a fine job, especially impressive considering the circumstances.

Tom,
I have a recollection that you were with Delter...are you still? Did you survive the shakeup over the past couple of years?
PS, nice work! Big project, eh?

Yeah, I'm still there. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. Tom

It's been a frustrating five years, that's for sure.I would say it can't get worse, but I hear NWA knocking on the door.Hang in there...and keep plugging away with the house.Mongo
Nice job, the financial and physical efforts can be huge. The average joe has no idea. stinky
1,000 miles- that's a long commute!
Nice looking house. When are you going to be finished?
Let me put that another way, since we're never finished with our homes.
When ya moving in?
It's really a second home. I hope to make a little money with vacation rentals in the summer. We may consider moving up there depending on what I do with work. If I stay on the schedule I'm on now we may move up and I'll commute. I dread moving my woodshop though. I've been saving for this for most of my career. It's still quite a stretch to carry it but I figured it wasn't getting any cheaper to build. I'm keeping my options open.
I hope to have it basically liveable by next spring. I should start on the tilework and such next month.

Here's another pic. Hard to get a good pic of the other two sides as the site is so wooded. I try to get out in the kayak next time i'm up and get some pics from the water.

You're welcome, and a hat-tip for all you took on your own shoulders. A lovely home, an exquisite setting.
