How important are Caulks and sealants in Home building

While looking for good quality sealants, i came across a post that enlightened me as to how important it is to select these things.

Is there something more i need to take into consideration while looking for sealants??

    Yeah, only buy DAP products, and especially stay away from no-name brands touted by spammers.
