here’s two Cape I designed and built on spec in ’75-’76..
both have red cedar clapboards primed and backprimed with oil primer..
then two coats of Sherwin Williams A100 latex..
they’ve never been painted since.. I know because they’re about 2 blocks from my office…. and the original buyers are still in them..
obviously , they need a paint job… but still for the most part…. still looking good

I like the orientation of the chimney on the blue house...
that a common detail in your area....
don't think I ever saw that before.

Mike,
On the yellow Cape Cod, it looks like the gable ends were never painted. Is that so? How come?
BTW, the rest of both houses do look pretty good. I painted my porch with A-100 latex 10 years ago. Looked real good for 9 years, but next summer I gotta re-do or else. Go figure. It does get all the "weather" though...which might account for it...who knows?

davo, it was sort of common in the '70's to duplicate the colonials ... white cedar on the sides and back .. and painted claps on the front
jeff: both of those houses have a corner fireplace in the living room, so i brought the chimney up thru the roof at the same angle... it was a signature i got stuck on.. like our first house..Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
