How long does it take for a new subject post to hit the site? I posted two new subjects this morning and they still have not appeared.
Dunno when this one will post.

You got more than one screen name here at BT? Had a buddy use my computer to access BT the other day....took almost twenty four hours for his thread to post. I`ve never had any such problems in the past, usually takes minutes. Dunno if it has anything to do....just an observation.

I don't have more than one identity at Breaktime. But I did get a new computer this summer (IMAC). I am posting this post with my old umit to see if I get different results.
Thanks for the idea.

We have filters in place that require a moderator to approve the first post of any new poster. If we have any doubts about that poster, we leave the filter on and approve their individual posts until we're satisfied. During business hours, first posts usually aren't delayed for more that a couple of hours. After 5 and on weekends, unless one of us happens to check in, new posters won't see the light of cyberspace until the next business morning.
New posters can also be old regulars who haven't checked in for a time. We're sorry for the inconvenince, but these steps were necessary to cut down on trolling.Andy Engel, The Former Accidental Moderator
So long as I`ve got your attention, perhaps you could explain a problem I`m having of late. When logging in, I direct the menu to "unread messages to me". For the past month or so, one by one, threads with messages to me but are inactive are popping up along with the new ones. I currently have three "dead" discussions appearing every time I access the "unread" section. Initially I tried putting the threads on ignore, to no avail. Its the same three, hauntiing me daily. Any suggestions?
Thanks!J. D. Reynolds

I've asked Mark to look into the problem. Remember, I'm not the techie here. Andy Engel, The Former Accidental Moderator
Thanks Andy...I only asked you because I really didn`t know where else I might direct such a question....and `cause I figgered you probably have nothing better to do anyhow. {G}J. D. Reynolds

I had the same experience, back when Boss posted for the first time about the same sort of experience.
I got rid of the threads by opening them, and taking the time to scroll down through the entire thread without re-reading it. The software doesn't care whether you take a half second to "read" an entire screen, or ten minutes. It just has to be convinced that you did indeed, look at the entire thing.

Thanks Luka....I`ll give that a try, although I`m almost certain I tried that with at least one of the threads.
As for coming across messages posted to me that are not listed as such..I used to notice that prob. quite often, not so much anymore. That one used to annoy me a bit as I don`t want someone to think I`m intentionally ignoring them.J. D. Reynolds

"DO IT RIGHT, DO IT ONCE"
That's exactly the reason it bothers me.
I don't want to miss something that someone has gone to the trouble of posting to me, and I really don't want them to think I am intentionaly ignoring them.
Otherwise, I really wouldn't care so much. It would just be a matter of adjusting.

Tried the "scroll through" discussion attack.....even placed threads on ignore....to no avail, except now when they pop up under "unread messages to me", they carry the thumbs down (ignore) stamp. Actually kind of humorous.J. D. Reynolds

Well, I'm at a loss.
I think you need to offer the super, (Mark), a bribe. Did you forget to give him a christmas present last year ?

BTW: I check the "messages to me" immediately, every time I come in here, as well.
While I no longer have the above problem, I am seeing posts to me... not show up in that search.
I do the search, and it finds one, a few, or none, whatever. I read what it presents, then move on to an "all" threads. In reading through, I am as likely as not, to find another post to me in there somewhere. A post that is hours old, (sometimes, days...), not just the minutes that it took for me to do what I have just done...

Seems like the new moderation policy has worked well. No problems for some time.
BTW - I'm having the same problem as Jaybird.I was thinking I might be ignorant or apathetic. But I don't know and I don't care.
Last week (Thursday or Friday I think) I went to start a new thread in the Tavern. It did not show up and thinking that I made a mistake reposted about 45 min later. Then about an hour later the first one shows, but the 2nd one was still MIA. It was about another hour before the 2nd one showed up.
I wonder if from time to time the "newbie" flag is getting set for non-new persons.
Andy-
FWIW, sometimes I have posts (responses) get posted immediately -sometimes it seems to take awhile (>a few minutes.)
Also, sometimes it seems to take much longer for the server to dish up a page.
I wonder if your host's servers are edging towards overload?

Sites can have filters in action that will delay posts with words that don't pass them and wait until a moderator will look at them and approve them for posting.
That may be why, if this site has such filters, some posts take longer to post than others.
Just a guess.:-)
I think that they did something like that here but it only effects new posters, but that could have been another site im thinking of.
Thats weird......everytime I post something it comes up first saying, "you again"?...lol
