My former employer let all 7 employees go last summer with no payment of the last weeks wages to any of them. He now has arrest warrants out for him regarding 2 of those cases and has his day in court coming up. I was ‘lucky’ and ‘pressed’ him early after the layoff and eventually received my pay.
If you think that’s bad, he was deducting child support payments from one employee, and after the layoff that employee was called onto the carpet for not making his child support payments. Seems the old employer never ‘bothered’ to forward the monies. After an arrest warrant was issued in this case the money appeared.
He has now ‘shut down’ the ‘old business’ and is ‘doing business as’ under a new name, even the same old website!
Just ranting and hoping that what comes around goes around.

That is unbelievable!
I worked for a contractor who deducted WSIB 10% off each pay cheque....when law states that he must pay it. Called him on that one pretty quick! It really enforces the fact that a good lawyer is one of your best friend/investments.
Hey Clinkard, Displaced Canadian here in the US of A, a northern Ontario'r (Sudbury area)- lots of fam damily in Toronto.Let's not confuse the issue with facts!
How did you get mixed up down there? What parts of Toronto.? I live and primarily work around Yonge/Lawrence area, but lots of work out and around toronto, cawthra road, brantford, roncesvalles. Have you worked in toronto before? I replied to a thread you posted ages ago about some family (maybe niece?) needing some built-ins for a store and didn't get a reply.
My carpentry company is in the process of incorporating so we are trying to build our contact network.

Hi Clinkard,Ma lives on Bloor St West across from High Park, sister a little further south closer to the lake and I'm up in Toronto every year. Actually visit there on the way up to Sudbury where I still own a cottage on Windy Lake outside Onaping.I did post a request for a contract to help my sister and her daughter do a build out for a Massage Parlor in Swansea area, and no - not that kind of parlor!Apologise for not replying but I only posted only to keep my sister happy but would never actually recommend a contractor to her, just one of those people you never want to work for.How I got where I am is asstory a couple of beers long.Let's not confuse the issue with facts!
"...hoping that what comes around goes around."
It does. It absolutely does. If you don't have the respect of your peers, you don't have anything.
For several years my wife was the managing Vet Tech at a veterinary hospital known for being the best. They would get referals from all over the place...................to do things no other hospital was confident enough to try.
Then one fall, my wife and the owner's daughter didn't get paychecks. "The printer was out of ink"...............ok, she got it the following Tuesday. Two weeks later he was "Out of Checks". She got her check three or four days later. Happened a few more times. Various excuses.
Always my wife and his daughter............because we didn't live check to check and a lot of times didn't even take the check to the bank for a week or more.
Then other employees started talking about racing to his bank because only about half the checks would cash on payday.................the rest maybe Tuesday of the following week.
When my wife left she had an interview at another clinic....................the Doctor there told her to request her SS account statement. HE had worked for the same vet right out of school.......................................about ten years earlier than my wife.
Sure enough...................my wife worked there almost 10 years..............only two years of SS payments made. We went back and looked, it had been taken out of every check.
EVENTUALLY Uncle Sam came and put locks on his door.............about 4 years after he was reported.
