I’m well underway removing existing teardrop siding on my remodel job and I’m thinking about applying my Hardiplank fiber cement siding. I’m wondering how I’m going to attach the pump jack pole braces to the base of the building once I’ve applied the siding. I’m very reluctant to be drilling all sorts of holes through the siding (and thus through the housewrap and sheathing) but I can’t figure out any other way. Suggestions?

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

Although it is an OSHA requirement to brace the base of each pole, I've never seen it done on a jobsite. I just use those post bases with about an 6" spike on the bottom of them - works fine.
If worse came to worse, and you can't use a spiked base because you're working over asphalt or concrete, I guess you could fasten a horizontal 2x4 to the foundation wall and brace to that.
never heard of bracing the base. But almost all the time we brace the pole 1/2 way up so the scaffold doesn't sway. That means leaving out a course of siding and attaching something from the pole to the wall. Scrap wood, all-purpose hangar and drywall screws. Nothing fancy. Fish in the missing course of siding on the way down. You could even attach to the window trim iffin you set the pole near it.
