Most appliance dealers sell products for cleaning ceramic cooktops.
I douse it with SoftScrub, and spray that with Greased Lightnin', then let it sit for a few minutes. Elbow grease with a scotchbrite pad, with a razor scraper for the tough stuff, and it's good as new, every time.
Or . . . napalm.

I have had huge sucess with this stuff in the kitchen
http://www.barkeepersfriend.com/products.htm
and I just checked, good for porcelian/ ceramic too. My only problem with the stuff is that its a bit of a pain in the butt to find. So I am going to be placing an order soon!

Been using Barkeepers for years on stainless steel and solid surface. Get mine at HD.
Second for Barkeepers Friend. First razorblade then BF with a moist washcloth. Looks like new in no time.

It helps to use a frying pan rather than placing the eggs or such directly on the cooktop!
Hey, I've seen people do that!
I used a razor blade
My wife uses the Cooktop Cleaner from Sears. Says it's better than Corning's.

"I used a razor blade"I don't shave with a blade. Would my Remington work as well?BruceT
Sugar cubes. Slightly dampened. Like buttah.
Lay a folded kitchen towel on the glass and soak it in plain white vinegar. Leave it that way overnight. It should clean up easily the next day.
I will second, third, or fourth the recommendation for Bar Keepers Friend.
Three Words:
Zep Floor Stripper
It made my ultra nasty cooktop look like it just came from the factory!
This stuff also works great for cleaning soap scum off shower pans.
Start by scraping off all the crud with a single edge razor blade. That takes care of 90% of the problem. Then use the Cerama-Bryte with a non-abrasive (blue) scotch-brite sponge, or one of the yellow scrubbies with soap already in it. It takes a little elbow grease. Or, you could use Barkeeper's Friend - I don't use it on ceramic because it does tend to be a bit abrasive, but it contains a mild acid that does a great job cleaning stainless and copper. I get mine at Bed-Bath-Beyond, a couple cans at a time. Full strength Simple Green will also work well if sprayed on and left to soak for five to ten minutes. I have had a ceramic cooktop for five years and I can get it looking brand new using any of those methods. A side effect of using the Simple Green is that the overspray does a great job of cleaning other parts of the stove as well, like the knob area and the backsplash. Most any cleaner or degreaser will work if you let it soak long enough. Just not too long - I use Simple Green full strength as a VERY effective paint remover on metal.
