Making photos appear as part of the post (rather than the goofy icon which requires an extra click and then doesn’t even return to the same spot) is rather simple. It’s the preparation that can be a nuisance.
The trickiest part is knowing where to put the photos in the first place so that they can be displayed within the post. They can’t just sit on your computer, because your computer gets turned off at times and isn’t always connected to the internet. They have to be put on somebody’s server so that a permanent link can be made between your post and that photo.
This thread shows one free place to store pictures, plus the way to include them into a post. I make no claims that it’s easy or not easy; just that it’s easier than most of the alternatives and it works.

I'm storing photos at a site called HyperPhoto: http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/canon.asp?s=cano
It has a few advantages over other photo sites, including email uploads and automated html code.
If you already have a hyperphoto account and just want to post photos, skip to step 6.

To store pictures at hyperphoto, you have to first join.

It wasn't hard to fill out the form and it accepted every name I tried!

Another thing you only need to do once is Create an Album. You can see I chose to make it public and to have no guestbook. I don't think a private album would work well here be/c we'd need your password to see the pictures.

Here's the way to get your photos onto their server.
Bookmark this web address: http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/home/s_user.asp?s=cano
From there click "Manage Images" and ignore everything else.

You can upload photos from the web, but I like uploading via email.
View Image
By clicking that "Upload Email" button, your email software will create a properly addressed email for you. All you have to do is attach as many photos as you'd like, and then send it.
Better still, if you save the email address it gives you and put it into your address book, you can skip all the steps that come before this, because that address is the one you'll use every single time.
View Image
hyperphoto will send an email back to you confirming that the photos made it there safely. I got this reply back in about 5 seconds, and it's been reliable every time I've tried it.
If you want to see one of the photos, you can click on a link in the email, but that's not the best way to take the next step, which is posting the photo to this forum.
View Image
Use that same bookmarked web address from earlier: http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/home/s_user.asp?s=cano
Again click "Manage Images" and ignore everything else. This time you'll see all of your uploaded images, plus a line to click that reads "Get HTML Code". Click that for the photo you want to post.

Set the dimensions to whatever you want. Hyperphoto will keep them proportional. I posted some of these full-size and some half-size. Select the options as shown...
View Image
Hyperphoto will show you the exact html you need to post a picture here. Select it and copy it.
View Image
Create your post in this forum and paste in the html you copied from hyperphoto. You can type your own text above and below the pasted link. The only two things to remember are to type the "p" where you want a paragraph break, and click that HTML checkbox, or else it won't look like what you hope it will.

And this is what it looks like...
Summary:
1. Get an account at hyperphoto. Once and done.
2. Upload as many pictures you want whenever you want via email.
3. Look at your new photo album, "Manage Images", "Get the HTML Code", and paste it into your post here.

Cloud,
I'm new at this as is apparent. I thought I was doing allright per your directions but looks like I goofed. I don't see the spot to check the box for the html when I post. What am I missing? Also, what if I want to post multiple pic's from the album in one post? Do i just add the additional html's? Thanks for any help you can give. If computers were made of wood, I might be able to figure them out! Bish
For multiple pictures you can place all the html lines in the same post. Separate them by <p> and maybe some descriptive text, unless you want them side by side.
When you type a post, below the box in which you type, and below the box for typing email addresses, and below the buttons for Post/Preview/Spell Check, etc, what comes next? You may have to scroll down. For me it's the html thing.
If you don't have that, then maybe someone (Luka, you out there?) with Windows might be able to tell me what's what. I'm on a Mac and that's superior...I mean....different. :)
Cloud,
Thanks for the responses, I see now I've got a slightly different screen in windows than your Mac. I finally posted in the gallery with some attatchments to see if that would work and it did, but your way is a lot better if I can figure it out. I really like the thumbnail option, but don't know if I can figure out how to do it. You make it sound easy, but me and computers don't get along too good. Thanks for the help, "Bish"
Once someone can tell us where the html switch is on a PC, I'll tell you how to easily display it as a thumbnail instead of the full-size. What I saw of your work was too nice to not display in the best light possible!
Below the post, there are two buttons, one labeled "WYSIWYG" and one labeled "Source". Switch to "Source" to use html. Someone mentioned that if you edit, the default wysiwyg returns, and you'll need to recheck the source box.

Well, this thread was a breath of fresh air! I also read another forum from time to time, and the occupants of that one are also pulling their hair out due to the same restrictions...Limited Photo space etc.
Cloud, your thread has saved the day I recon, Thanks a lot! Great instructions by the way..
I hope you dont mind me passing on the word??
Way cool, Bishop. I'm thrilled that anyone followed the directions that far!!!! Good on you!!! Here's your pict

Thanks a ton Cloud Hidden, for taking the time to explain. I've been trying to post directly for some time.
You're welcome! Thrilled that anyone found it useful. And if you modify the html so that the href looks more like http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/view/exportImage.asp? than like http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/view/Image.asp? (i.e. just like the code for the thumbnail, but without the h and w attributes), when you click to see the full-sized image, you'll see just the image and not all the hyperphoto sales stuff.
I gotta check this out... <p> <a href="http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/view/Image.asp?s=cano&u=1758412&a=1334297&i=10360466"><img src=http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/view/exportImage.asp?s=cano&i=10360466&w=192&h=256></a><p>

Here you go cloud, copied/pasted and hit the source button.......no html button visible. Same heiroglyphics as before. I know you'll be able to post it, but what do you think the problem is on my end?

Hey Calvin,
You need to hit the source button before you paste that way your are pasting in source mode. Otherwise the system thinks that you are just pasting some ordinary text and hitting the source after the fact will not convert it to code.
Hope this helps but if you have more questions give a yell.-MarkSYSOP[email protected]

I had a 1979 Camaro Berlinetta. Dark Blue, Tan interior, T-tops, Great memories. What year is that car ?
The p-green camero (econo-small 8-no chrome) is a 79. That damn green was everywhere, even in the ashtray. You couldn't paint it with anything with that interior. 22,000mi when we sold it last yr. Almost driven by a school teacher, 11,000 when we got it in 95. Front end way big. Doors first positive detent would cream the car next to you in a lot. Shoot, could hardly get in and out of it when parked. Fun while it lasted.__________________________________________

Yeah, what he said! Apparently on the Wintel side, Source is a button that you gotta click before changing any of the content of the post. On the Mac side, HTML is a checkbox that you can check at any time before posting.
Cloud Hidden, that is really neat but are you sure the services are free? I began to wonder when I read the terms. Please explain. Fonzie
Whose services? Mine? Yup, free. :)
Hyperphoto? I have maybe a hundred pix on there for the last year and they don't spam or ask for any money or anything. I'm sure they're happy if you order prints of whatever you post there, but that's unrelated to how I use it. There are other free photo sites, too. Can't say I read their terms. Can say I haven't given them money or cc info.
Cloud,
Great tutorial. You should be a technical writer, if you're not. I learned more in the last 15 minutes than I have all week, though I did try kiwi brown shoe polish to darken up a cherry finish for a customer, and it worked better (and faster) than any other wax I've ever used.
But this I'd never have tried had it not been for your post.
Thanks again.

Thanks. Glad it all made sense.
cloud,
I've been playing with it, and it could be that I'm not waiting long enough for the images to load, but I think there is a glitch on their website. Sometimes the pics are loaded, other times a red X in a little box. Sometimes, my pics on their site turn to red x's sometimes I have to quickly hit the yellow "view" and the other yellow bar in close sucession to get their viewer to work.
Don't know what's going on there, but your directions were superb.

Un-bump. :)This thread is stupid because I broke the #1 rule of linking pictures: Don't use a photo library that will become defunct and fill your posts with irretrievably broken links.
