Does drilling new screws into the roof rafters compromise the strength of the roof?

Condensation
The issue is to find and remove the source of the high humidiity which is being condensed
Where are they located? Do they have a humidier on their furnace thay have forgotten to turn off?
Are they in a high humidity area and open their windows at night and allow the humidity in the house to rebuild? (I don't have direct experience in that sort of area, but I have it can be an issue.)
Is their A/C unit over-sized? (An oversized unit cools the house too quickly and doesn't remove enough moisture from the air.)
...know the cause...
OK then, eliminate the CAUSE and that should stop the problem.
as to cure for the current moldy D/W;
Effect the standard DW remove/replace technique.

Air conditioning is certainly the problem (too large - too little dehumidifying). We are addressing those issues. I was wondering if anyone has any advice regarding the steps to take during repair of existing damage around A/C vents (sealants, techniques, etc. Thanks
Check out the EPA and NYC web sites on mold remediation.Many will advise you to use bleach.The experts are movong away from the use of bleach.

Hello Newbie - welcome to BT.
Down on left side of your BT screen is a "search box" where you can type in the word MOLD and wait and wait (ok, about 80 sec should do it) and then ignore the stuff you will see first on right side of computer screen about copper pipe sizing....and wait til the left side vertical column shows up with links to all sorts of THREADS here discussing the topic.
That 's one way to ck out the same topic you have, that's potentially already in discussion or has been, on this forum.
For e.g.: Here's similar active thread ongoing:http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=65050.1
(hmmm, not sure why that "copy shortcut" didn't wanna work...but scroll down in this FOLDER and you'll see a thread on basement/mold - has some good info that's still relative)
RJW has given you some good feedback in his post above also.
