My house has a concrete front stoop that apparently was added on after the house was built. The outside of the house is cedar shingles, and whoever did the addition simply poured the concrete right up to the wall. About 1 1/2 courses of shingles are trapped between the sheathing and the concrete with no flashing of any sort. There have been repeated attempts to caulk the gap that opens up.
The inevitable has happened, and some of the shingles are rotten. I will have to tackle this sooner rather than later.
I plan to remove the portion of the lowest shingle above the porch all along the porch and the next course of shingles above that to give me some working room. Then I intend to put some sort of flashing up against the wall, overlapping the concrete and put new shingles over that.
Ideas? Suggestions? Tips on waterproofing the flashing?
I can’t afford to replace the stoop right now, much as I would like to do so.
Thanks,
George Patterson

I won't offer any advise on the flashing, just to get it behind everything you can and let it come forward enough to keep the water away from the house.
What I will suggest is that you think about termites behind that stoop. It's a perfect place for them to live and eat. Food, water, dirt, protection. See it all the time. While you are at it maybe have it treated.
