I’m finishing a short staircase put in during a home addition last summer. The contractor did a good job on framing the stairs – no problem there. I like doing my own carpentry as much as possible because it is very satisfying. Anyway, I’m stuck on trying to figure out how to interface a skirt board with the baseboard molding. The walls below the stairs and above the stairs are straight, and the staircase is also straight – so it should be simple (to anyone but me). Neither the baseboard nor the skirt board are in place yet. My baseboard is 5″ molding, 1-piece, with the top 2″ being a colonial design. What’s my best approach towards making a matching skirt board, and how do I join it to the baseboards?
Thanks
