How to properly extend a power cable

I have a hardwire window shade that uses a relatively small 120v power cable that I need to extend. It is proper to strip it and graft it to another power cord? If so can I use a crimp to attach so the connection is fully enclosed?

All 120V connections must be in an approved box. Unless you can hide a surface mount box somewhere (behind curtains???), you should open the shade where the electrical connection is and attach a new cable that's long enough. FWIW, I have absolutely no idea what small, unobtrusive surface mount boxes are available. I presume there are such boxes, though.
