On our “ranchette” we have the original ranch cabin/home/dwelling. Somewhere in time it was vinyl sided. However when we decided to clean up the interior cracks it became clear that the walls are plaster over adobe with no wire to hold plaster. Any resources availabel to teach me how to plaster? Should I remove all the plaster and “fir” out and sheet rock the walls. The wall construction is old railroad ties with adobe mud in between. Original construction is supposedly circa 1890. I know it would be cheaper to doze it in and start from the ground up. Any suggestions?–4mules

I tried to do some plastering back when I lived in New Mexico and all I can say is that I would hire it out to someone who has been doing it for awhile.
If you are determined to do it yourself then start in someplace that won't be seen and then work your way into the more visible spots.
As far as learning from a video I wqould say that hands on experience is the way to go.

What is your intent? Just fix the cracks, or wholesale plaster replacement / refinishing? Do you intend to try to retain the historical value of the original finish?
Do it right, or do it twice.

Curious as to where you are... I live in south central Colorado and the ties and adobe type of construction is common here.
I'm no help, though. Never fixed any adobe.
