Hi all! I need to shut down a summer house, and another house that’s a foreclosure, for the Wisconsin winter. At some of the houses around here I have seen plumbers take apart every faucet, tub & shower valve and toilet tank valve. Others suggest that simply opening the valves and a low point and letting everything drain back is sufficient. That’s in addition to draining, water heaters, pressure tanks (for well water systems), meters and putting anti-freeze in the traps and toilets. The foreclosure has a dishwasher; what to do with that? Turn off the gas or electric to the water heater too. Anything else? — Matt

I think there were a fair number of posts about winterizing. Try doing an advanced search.

People I know use compressed air to rid the lines of water and then pour anti freeze down the traps. Some I know have used window washer fluid. I am not sure how well that would work in WI.
