I have some posts and beams that I’d like to wrap in VG fir, as they’re fingerjointed laminated beams right now (and have some exposed connectors).
It would be pretty easy to do this with normal 1x stock, but I’m wondering if I should try to do it with something thinner to save money. Of course, I’d have to pay somebody to resaw it.
Any comments? I have two 4×6 posts and about 20 linear feet of 6×10 beam.

ericgu,
I think anything thinner than 1x might be too hard to work with as in it might show waves or imperfections of the beams below it.
And I think you'd spend more money to have anything resawn to scant size as opposed to just using 1x throughout.
Just my thoughts of course.
