We bought a mid-nineties colonial in 2017. When we bought the home, I asked the inspector about the crazy number of screws and nails bulging from the walls and ceilings. (Think- in a two-story foyer, you can clearly see drywall seams and the corresponding screws along it, as well as the nails popping along ceiling edges in various rooms.). The inspector said it was totally normal and basically cosmetic, due to settling.
However, five years into owning the home and new pops are still appearing. In various places – ceilings, walls, first floor, second floor. Some are definitely temperature related ( we got into the low 50s here last night and there are several news ones along some exterior walls).
Is this normal? After over 25 years to be constantly having screws and nails popping?
(note: we’ve had an energy audit previously and they checked insulation levels in walls and attic and we are good.)
