i have the smaller model apollo 900 have used that for 7 years, then switched to the two diffrent gravity feed hvlp -conversion guns de-villbis for oil-based, poly urethane, shellac, lacquer . they all have there own repective medium vessels.and a trans-aire exclusively for latex and water based finishes. my point being i have a few miniscules gripes with the 900 first is clean-up, more pieces more time, all the nooks and crannies, my bleeder gun once and awhile stirs up a tiny bit of dust ,still effects the finish more time sanding, and the larger of the issue is the atomization is finer and more efficient in the gravity feed conversion guns. the biggest of the pros is the consolidation of the system in the unit, everything can be place in two rubber -made ™ large totes in the trailer good to go. the big downfall with the conversion is the side of compressor you need around 9 cfm with the guns i have to them any justice, and pulling that around is a pain in the butt. if you have a large compressor set-up maybe?? i'd give the conversion guns a whirl, there are some issues using a compressor is the mosture condensation build up but there are filter attachments for this. when apollo/graco system are used in a damp or colder climate these units are better, because of the heat generated by the turbine. all it is a vaccum cleaner motor in reverse. i have used the graco system and thought that it was a wee bit better of a model than the apollo. but not by much......... try homestead finishing jeff jewitt a good and very helpful bunch over there. slainte'

try this http://www.homesteadfinishing.com/phpbb2/index.php?c=1 if i gave you any info that is redundant to you after 16 years of experiance, my apologies. just had a big cup of coffee, and fingers were on a roll. best....." we judge ourselves by our motives, and others by their actions........."
I think that you need to let people know what you want to spend and whether or not you want one with a pressure pot or just a gravity fed/siphon set up.
I bought a Accuspray setup from Compliant Spray Systems in San Clemente, Ca. and it ran around $1200-$1500, depending on the model, and whether or not you want a 3 or 4 stage system. I have no regrets with it except that it is slower than my airless pumps.
If you plan on using it for mainly lacquer, then may I suggest a Wagner/Spraytech airless. These are diaphragm pumps and they have a hopper(1 1/4 gal bucket) on the top. Easy to clean/change over and move around. They go for around $500-$700 or even less if you can find them reconditioned. Make sure you get a good gun. These types of pumps don't work too well with latex/oil, unless you tin the material quite a bit.
How considerable do you have to thin it ? in terms of lets say a zahn's cup off the top how many seconds ?? i spray mostly oils, exterior, but will jump to acrylic enamel . with the enviromental concerns here in new york. thanks....k" we judge ourselves by our motives, and others by their actions........."
Now, your getting to where I've wanted to go, but never took the time to figure how much to thin with a zahn's cup. Every finish is different, especially depending on where you live (VOC's)
Place, season, medium, floetrol, penetrol, tints, why primer has a tendency to accumulate more solids on the bottom quicker. than paints . would end up inpolite to hi-jack this thread . maybe i'll take my own advice with homesteadfinishing. .." we judge ourselves by our motives, and others by their actions........."
