I have been researching HVLP systems for painting trim. Presently I have a older craftsman compressor I use in the shop. I want to use this compressor with a HVLP spray gun. Is this a possibility. Also I have not seen the CFM requirements for a HVLP spray guns posted in advertisments, what are they?
Thanks Dave from Chicago

Dave,
Sure you can . . . but what size tank is on your compressor? You want to make sure you have ample storage as unlike using power tools when you run out of air, when finishing, if you run out if is usually a disaster. As for specific gun requirements I'd suggest checking the manafacturers own websites as they'll have tons more info for you.

What you are looking for is a CONVERSION gun.
Most of them take lots of air. And I have seen the specs, if not in their ads check the manufacters web site.
But it depends on what you want to do. There are smaller guns that don't take near as much air.
One of the WW mags has an article on this within the last 6 months. You should probably ask about this in knots.
Also you can ask in Jeff Jewitt's forum; http://www.homesteadfinishing.com/
Be aware that he also sells these and most of what he has is not cheap. But he will give you a straight answer.
But I see that you want to paint trim. I have not tried spraying paint, but I understand that it requires more than average pressure and flow due to the larger tips.
The smaller guns that will work with a smaller compressor probably are not suitable for painting trim.
