I’ve been looking on Craigslist and noticed this one didn’t sell real fast. It was priced higher than most with fewer miles.
It turns out the owner was a widow who used to go fishing with her husband in it.
Really nice condition and I didn’t mind paying more since the money was going to a widow. I did ask her to lower the price for the amount to fix the warped rotors.
She had no problem with lowering it.
She immediately liked me because I brought my 19 year old daughter with me. I test drove it with her neighbor while the girls talked.
It’s a small 99 Chevy 4 cylinder 2 wheel drive with a 5 speed manual. And no air conditioning!
It’s just what I wanted. I can’t believe i have a truck again! Woho!

Nice clean truck with a nice cap. No air and 2wd would be a deal killer for me. Where do you live that you need neither of those?
Steve
I'm looking for some wheels for it so I can get some studded snow tires mounted.
The tire shop down the street has a big pile of tires in front right now.
I've heard the studded tires when cars drive by. So they are legal.
I purposely don't drive that much. We live in town a stones throw from most things.
With the snow tires I'll be fine. I drive like a little old lady except better.
We lived in Wisconsin for 7 years and the most important thing I learned about driving in snow is to SLOW DOWN!
Since I'm already going slow I will be real slow.
I took the topper off a couple of days ago. Most of the time I don't need it.

I have had a four wheel drive toyota since new in 92 and the 4wd definitely opened up a lot of new possibilities. Recently I got a similar toyota but 2wd at a university surplus sale for $250 and have been driving it. The biggest difference I have noted in between the 2wd and 4wd is the highway performance. I routinely drive up a steep hill on the highway and starting out at 45mph in the 4wd I am doing between 50 and 55 at the crest of the hill. The 2wd toyota starting at 45mph is doing 70 at the crest of the hill.I realize the two may have different final drive ratios but I am guessing the main difference is the 2wd truck is 1000 lbs lighter. If I were just going to have one truck I would consider a 2wd pickup with a lockable rear differential. Minimal cost, less weight, perhaps cheaper insurance, less stuff to maintain.Nice truck BTW!Karl
I live in Ft Collins, CO. You don't need air here because of the elevation.
The snow here comes in waves and usually the next day it is sunny and it melts.
There are a lot of sunny days here.
Solar should really take off here if the economy gets going and the feds give tax incentives.
Looks really good
It's hard to find them in good condition like yours
Your wheelie poppin days are over with that truck.
Nice truck tho', I'd put it to good use here, 4wd just gets ya 4x as stuck, and ya still don't have 4w STOP in snow and ice. Good little puddle jumper for light work.

>>4wd just gets ya 4x as stuck, and ya still don't have 4w STOP in snow and ice.<<I agree with you about the 4W STOP part of that sentence, but after 35years of driving in snow country, I gotta violently disagree with you on the 4x as stuck part of it. I can't even begin to count the number of hills I've been able to get over driving right around 2-wheelers sliding backward down them all the while. And I've never seen anyone chain their 2wd truck to concrete piers dug four feet into the ground and and yank them out. For my needs in the great white north, I'll never have a 2wd vehicle. But I would like a little 4wd puddle jumper like that. Brings back fond memories of my first truck...a 4wd Ford Ranger that I bought for 2500 bucks with 133K miles on it. Ran it up to 225K, never replaced anything but tires, brakes and a fuel pump, rolled it on it's side, totaled it out in the insurance claim, collecting 2K, drove it for another year, then sold it for 750 bucks.Meanwhile my brand-spankin' new 3/4 ton dodge has been driving me into the poor house...Steve
Snow and Ice yep, 4wd is great, but over the years, I've had 2 F250's, one IH Scout 800B, 3 Toyota Pu's, and 1 Safari AWD Van.
I buried all of them except the Safari..off roading, mudding, river racing and weekend 4wd hill climbs..you WILL try something at least ONCE, that you'd never try with 2wd.
Something about that Safari, I've been on jobs that other 4wds were mired in mud, and I just trucked right on thru.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

GMC's version of the Chevy Astro, the AWD is awesome, full time, and really ALL wheels. 4.3L V6. If it had more ground clearance and hauled more, I'd still be driving it.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

I liked that pic you posted awhile back of the
two of your wallowing in the muck.
the owner was a widow who used to go fishing with her husband in it.
So it floats? Or is that why she's a widow?
You fell for the "little old lady who only..." story???!!!
either that or you took advantage of a nice old lady???
aint capitalism great??!!
:O)
seriously nice find!!!

What kind of mileage do you expect?
I have no idea. I just bought one with the small engine and a manual five speed.
I could track it but I'm just not very motivated to do it.
We are in town and just don't need a bigger truck.
I used to think bigger was better almost all the time but have changed.
you only need a big truck to pick up women.
Why, you like BIG wimmin?
er, that means big women?
