I been doing tapping for half year. I am still pretty new to it. i wanna ask a few question .
1. Do you have to skim coat a brand new sheetrock ?
2.the tapping guy that is teaching me right now is saying that brand new sheetrock is not even is it truth ?
3. he also told me that if 2 factory tapered joint meet together that when you tape the sheetrock is not even. he show me using a 10in tapping kinfe that there is a gap and is not sitting even between the joint. is what he saying is right ?
4.like i said i am pretty new on tapping so my skill is not that good.most time i leave the edge heavy. my question is if i feather the edge out would you still see it or feel it ? the guy tolding me you gonna see it and feel it. here is the picture
5.when i compound i sometime leave mark or line not sure if you can see it in the 2nd pic. now if i 2nd coated that would it cover it and smooth it out because the guy saying that you well see and feel it. it going to make the sheetrock wave and have bump.
6. are you suppose to mix compound with plaster and thinset together to even out a sheetrock metal corner beam or spot that is not even ? i see him doing that. I also see him mixing compound with structolite to tape sheetrock.
I also see him use this tool that tape a sheetrock in oneshoot to even out a brannew sheetrock.
this guy is doing all this on a brand new sheetrock.
he used paper tape for all joint.
the way i was tough was that i dont need to skim coat a brand new sheetrock only tape the joint and feather it out and sand it out. is that how most pro tape ?

I think you mean "taping".
I think you mean "taping".
there is drywall taping and there is veneer plastering.
They are very different.
It sounds like you are doing drywall taping where you apply seam tape and drywall mud.
