All,
With the advent of a forthcoming project, I will need to buy liability insurance.
How much should I get?
What should I expect to pay?
What is the most reasonable place to buy from?
Thanks,
dlb

Natural light, taller ceilings, and more functional spaces transform this midcentuary-modern home.

If there is any state or local licensing requirement they often specify the amount.
Other than that how much damage can you do? For example someone doing finish work could leave oily rags around that burn donw a multi-million dollar home.
What kind of project it this.
I have the Erie 5 Star program...and have been happy...
just found out another contractor/sub I've been working along side of has the same and is very happy too.
A good agent should be able to tell ya what ya need. Ask lotsa "what if, then what" questions to make sure EVERYTHING is covered. I had a list a mile long......innitial meeting took over 2 hr, if I remember correctly. Get a good agent..trust them..and go from there. Jeff,
Is there another name for the insurance that you have other than Erie 5 Star? A search by Google produces a B&B listing and nothing else.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
dlb
Dale,
In terms of cost, the only method I know to get a good cost is to shop around. Go to a couple of independent agents and maybe a State Farm agent, or other large company...maybe Farm Bureau. Insurance is a strange product, and the pricing can vary significantly from company to company as well as from area to area.
Be careful that you are comparing apples to apples.

I have the same problem, but I'm in Vancouver, Canada.
A property management gives me lots of business, but they need me to carry liability insurance.
Around here, basic 500,000 liability, no tools, no working on condominium building envelopes costs 500 - 1500/yr - and the companies don't want to underwrite you!
I've been trying for 3 months and I've never had a claim. At my age, my fingers & knees arrive at work an hour after I do.

Not sure Dale.
It's thru our regular Erie Insurance agent. Maybe find their site and try a search for contractors insurance to narrow it down?
The program is stilled called "Five Star Contractors Insurance", as far as I know. Was talking to another sub who just signed up, and he recognized the Five Star name.
I think my agent said Five Star was used because it combined what used to be a couple of options into one better priced package. I have a few riders on top of the basic package as well. Jeff.......Sometimes on the toll road of life.....a handful of change is good.......
Bill,
This is a condo kitchen remodel on the 15th floor. The operations mgr requires a 1 million dollar liability policy. I have not looked into insurance before but have had tremendously great advice from this forum so, I decided to post in order to get some more sound advice.
Thanks,
