I need a bucket for backhoe

joeh | Posted in General Discussion on May 12, 2007 01:13am

Need a narrow bucket for my old Case backhoe.

Whatcha got you don’t need?

Probably can modify anything to fit so anything 10″ or 12″ will do me.

There's a fellow out here named VATom, does some serious dirt moving. I was gonna see if I could get him to take a look at the thread. But after a second look, you guys are a little too far apart. I don't think you want to pay for delivery from VA to UTAH.

Joe knows me, once sent me a book.  I've got a 14" bucket on my hoe, but it's not what he wants, nor is it reasonably available.

Might be a tough search.  I gave it some thought earlier today.  I presume Joe's been watching ebay.

I do know where you, Don, can get a cheap Case 580 CK if you want a bottom-end hoe though.  Replaced with a newer 580 extend-a-hoe.  Not mine, a client's.  Who never did more than watch me operate it.  PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!

      1. joeh | May 12, 2007 05:34am | #3

Tom, I'd jump on that 580, that would be a big step up from my 380. Nothing around here cheap, no auctions.

Went to one last year, 100 mile drive to watch stuff go for 3 times what it was worth at least. Junk that wouldn't start went for running prices +, it was amazing.

Hope those same morons show up when Ruby auctions my stuff.

I'm going to hit all the local dealers, see if anyone has a cracked or whatever bucket, then think about getting some plate and making one.

Ebay I'm watching, but haven't seem anything. It could happen, there's no big rush on this but I'd like to have some lines in this year between the other 100 things I have to do.

Joe, I guess you've checked with the online dealers?  Buckets I haven't needed, but I've found incredible deals on everything else.  For instance, Cat no longer supplies a tranny shaft/gear I needed.  Found a new (dusty) one for $550, list was $1400.  I settled on used for $390.

The folks who offered me the new one, Offroad Equipment in Tennessee, came through with loader bucket teeth after I found a pile of adapters.  You know the Chinese are buying our used steel?  I got Chinese teeth: $8 ea- for a 23,000 lb tractor.  And they haven't broken!

The place with the used shaft, Wenger's, isn't any closer to you- Pennsylvania.  They're a large scrap yard.  The shaft was exactly as they described on the phone.  Pretty sure being in Utah isn't helping you out.  Truck freight might not be so bad.

I made the mistake of advertising that hoe once for the owner.  Lots of phone calls.  20 minute drive for me, about half showed up for the appointment.  Majority of them didn't apparently have any money.  Don't know as I've seen a 380.  CK was the original 580, hoe stuck on an industrial tractor.  The newer ones are much better balanced, designed as a total package.  All of 'em incredibly strong.

I've seen the same action at auctions, but not always.  Last one I attended had a rubbertire loader similar to mine.  I was thinking under $10k, had a reserve of $22k.  Nobody but the owner thought it was worth that much.

Hi to Ruby.  She need more socks yet?  How long's your trench?  I generally use whatever I have.

Tom, I want to run lines everywhere is the best explanation. With a 2' bucket it's  a lot of dirt for 36" deep trench. Ruby has planted stuff everywhere and I have mickymoused irrigation as it spread. Time to do something more permanent & a little neater/tidier too.

I'm going to make an effort next week to hit some of the hundreds of junk piles around town to see if there's something that will work. It's here, just nobody wants to part with it cuz "I'm gonna do something with that someday.........."

Millions of dollars worth of old equipment slowly sinking into the ground. Day the owner dies his kids call the junk man & the realestate agents.

            Would someone lend you one?

We sold our old Case 580 buckets quite awhile ago, and we are also kind of far from you.

I usually get my buckets from RB auctions, new and used.

You can check  Ritchie Brothers auctions.

    http://www.rbauction.com

They are having one in Las Vegas on June 8th, one in Denver on June 14th-15th, and another in Albuquerque on June 26th. These are the closest locations to you

Also check Hunt Tractor which is located in Medford, Oregon. They have reasonable prices on buckets new and used, just not sure how much it would be to ship to you.

I cut loose of a 12" bucket about 2 years ago for $150. It needed new shanks and I already had another 12". My buddy i sold it to is not using it, but I bet the shipping would be a killer. There is one on ebay right now. Search Case backhoe bucket.

Also if you Google Case backhoe bucket, it pops up some sites with new and used buckets. I usually buy buckets from the local Case dealer out of his rental or trade-ins. But I still use some of my 30 year old 580CK buckets on my 580SM.

The one on Ebay is at $255 with 13 bids & going up.

I've seen a couple, missed one awhile back that would have worked........oh well.

How much does the one you sold your buddy weigh? Think UPS or FedEx will handle up to 100 lbs. If you could ask him if he wants to sell I'd be interested if the shipping could work.

I'd guess it weighs 150-200 pounds. Myself and another guy can lift it into a truck.John

    Joe,

If you find a bucket somewhere, check to see if they're willing to put it on the train.  Amtrak is the cheapest shipping I've ever seen, approx equal to USPS bookrate.  A few years back (y2k) I sent 650lbs of boxes Savannah to Seattle for about $230.  The station in Seattle will take anything they can move with a forklift.  I think it has to be in a box, though.   The California Zephyr goes through Utah.  A station near you can give you more detail.
