to help run my remodelling/addition work in the Weschester County, NY & Northern NJ areas. I’d like to think we have a well-run operation. How would you go about finding one? Anyone ever try this “CLP” company?

I haven't tried CLP out personally, but came pretty close a few months ago based on the recomendations of a trusted business associate. He has very good things to say about CLP out here in MA. Don't know about NY/NJ though.... be careful.... you might end up with a few Yankee fans running around mucking up your site! ;)
IIRC, he said they had carpenters in two or three levels. 80% of them were worth every penny he said. The other 20% were sent home within a couple of hours and the company (CLP) had no problem with it. Once he got to know a few of the guys he could ask for them for the remainder of the project so that a bit of rhythm could be established. I believe he hired a couple of them on at the end of the job.
I'd certainly consider giving it a try out. The money isn't bad around here (I forget what he told me the rates were but I remember thinking it was very fair) and the taxes/insurance jug-####% is taken care of. What's to lose?
What is CLP?
Taylors dad; I'd consider your position, but I'm not willing to do that much driving, I'm in Brewster, NY.

Tell me more about your skillset, I'm listening (or reading in this respect). You can e-mail me directly at [email protected]. I'm booked thru October with jobs in South Salem, NY, Mt. Kisco, NY and Montclair, NJ. You'd get yourself to South Salem and Mt. Kisco but you'd come out in my truck by meeting me and leaving your wheels in Mahopac for the Montclair job at least 3 out of 5 days a week. Thats not much driving at all by my account. Having the right lead man will enable me to go out and book to October, 2006 and you'd be part of a growing entity.
What was that line Cuba Gooding said in Jerry Mcguire?
Hope all is going Good 4-U!
Thanks for the input. The closest office is apparently in Queens, NY (L.I.C.) where I grew up. So it may not be logistically viable for there workforce but your positive statements will keep me paying attention to that option.
CLP, as in Contractors Labor Pool? We have used them whenI worked for a different company about 5 years ago. Like Labor Express about 1 in 10 I would hire full time from CLP. With Labor Express about 1 in 100. I think we were paying about $26 per hr for the CLP guy 5 years ago & still had to baby sit them!
Okay, that answers that question. Too little for too much. I appreciate the input.
I've gotten carpenters a few times from CLP in the Bay Area. They can have some good guys, guys that are new to the area or just looking to plug in between jobs. The office I dealt with had a payout deal where you could hire the guy directly but had to pay them a finders fee.
If you try it, be ready to send the guy home if you decide he's not what you need. It's a little bit of a crap shoot but they try to get good workers. I've always done at least OK with their guys.
