Believe it or not, Sears carries (carried?) them. I bought one back in 1991 for a summer framing gig, and it was pretty good- balanced, nice handle, etc. I've still got it somewhere.

I first learned how to frame in Idaho in the mid 70's, and the rigging axe was the implement of choice for whacking oiled 16d nails with one whack, didn't know better :)
When I came back to the east coast with my axe and worm drive saw, got some strange looks. Got to keep my worm drive but my boss made me switch to a 28 oz Vaughn.
It know resides with my camping gear.
I did about the same. I think my shoulder still hurts part of the time from driving those 16s.

Vaughan stills makes a 28oz Rig Builders Hatchet. I have seen them in some lumber yards.
Or if you want to buy one on the net, Amazon has them for about $29.
I saw the Vaughn in HD today. I thought it would be good for demo. I think I'll get one.
Headstrong, I'll take on anyone!
I find mine next to the kindling pile. It is an old Plumb that I have had since the early seventies.
Third or fourth handle
