Lumber yard had a stack of damaged Adavantech . Part of it was damaged grooves but not all. I complained that it wouldnt go together and it needed a serious discount . So he sold the bunk to me for 15.00 per sheet and a pile of 4ft 2x6s for .25 cents a piece to fix the plywood .
It goes on one of my own jobs .
You scored lately?

Yesterday I bought some new pieces of doublewalled stainless 8 in dia stove pipe sections. Got a T, two 45s, two regular straight foot long sections and the clamp for the conduit support for $30.
Gets added to the other garage sale purchased 4 straight sections stored out in a shed awaiting their day.

Two years ago I picked up (2) 28' Louisville alum extes ladders + a 8-16' aluminum plank for $200.Figured it was about $600 worth of goods.Another rummage sale, picked up a Werner combo 7' double sided step/ 7-13' extension fiberglass ladder with a pole V on the end for $45 - that is about a $280 ladder.JT
Got a 20' length of culvert & 1 coupler for $40 yesterday. About 50% of usual $$.
Need a couple more for my drive, and some trench to go with.

How are the 2x6's going to fix the ply?

Great to be a deal maker isn't it. The local Lowes had a yard sale day to clear out stuff, then a weekend of sales to finish it off. I caught it on the fifth day when they just want to get rid of it.
I bought 4 DeWalt corded 4" grinders, 6.5 amp for 30.00 each, closing them out from 69.95 and had 4 left so I offered 30 each and got them. Also the same day got a Senco small compressor and brad nail gun for 90.00. And 5-5'X 5' thermopane Pella windows, great for a porch enclosure for 5.00 each. Low E, Argon and all.
Oh, and 2 Pella storm doors, missing some misc hardware for $10 each. Wife thinks I am a hero with the new storm doors. Bonus of sorts. DanT

LOL.
Stacy's mom has got it going on.
He's gonna waste them all as bash blocks sledging the T&Gs together.
Because Im not going to mess with the joints that are damaged. Ill rip them sqaure and provide solid blocking underneath those sections with the 2x6s . Glue and screw. Stil a lot better than paying 30 bucks a sheet . For my rental anyway where I keep getting repaid over and over again.
What would you do with damaged grooves? I thought about fixin them witha router . I wont get them till Monday so Im not looking at them right now .

Got a Bosch 10" dual compound slider with laser for 500, no shipping cost. Promotional at the big box, had to meet a client there to go over molding choices, saw the display table set up. Special order, took about a week. Came just in time for a couple of jobs I need it for.
I have the one without the laser but with the front controls. What a saw! We have 3 different ones and the only way I get to use the Bosch is by reminding everyone who the boss is lol. DanT

Took a late lunch last week. In Lowes I spotted a stack of Genie garage door openers on clearance. 9-10 for $94 and 4 for $114.
Went back to work and looked up the $94 model. Couldn't find it online for less than $239. Went back after work (about 2 hrs later). The $94 model was GONE. Only 2 of the $114's left. So I snagged one. Don't know what the regular retail on it was, but it goes for over $200 on eBay.

You still did good.
Thats one thing normally about auctions thats mind boggling.
You go there to buy something and it goes to high and dont geter done.
While you are there waiting on said somthing you see somthing else but havent done homework on it . Such is lfe .
You werent sure so you went home to check on puter but I guess someone else knew .
On the reverse side some people will give more than somthings worth at an auction sometimes .
I was bidding on a house one time at an estate sale . The guy bidding against me knew me pretty well. I took it up with him till I was done and he covered the next bid and bought it .
He came over smiling at me and slapped me on the back really proud of himself. I looked at him like Id just seen a UFO. I told him I was clueless as to his good mood and all. He told me he had done a good job to out trade me . I was still clueless . I asked if he knew what was wrong with it , because as yet that was my puzzlement . He said theres nothing wrong with this house! I said you sure out traded me and walked away.

Hey---a couple more good scores like that Tim---and you will be able to upgrade to a more expensive soap than Lifeboy---LOL

Got a Dewalt Miter Saw (DW708) for half price at HD.
They were trying to get rid of them to make room for the new models.
I would call that a find but Mr Buck woulda said leave it alone . <G> Youll need a cord in a year . Other wise they are very nice saws.

Last night when I was at work. One of the machinists came up to me and said he had some clamps that a buddy wanted to sell. I thought they might be cheap imports, but to my surprise, they were light duty Jorgensen's like these.

There were six 1 footers and six 3 footers. Retail worth about $175, and I got them for $25 Canadian. Not a big score, but one that make me happy.
A lil' ways back I was going to my tile supplier to pick up some marble he promised me that day. The truck never got there. HE told me that if I wanted I could go to the warehouse a half hour away and get it.
When I picked it up I saw a pile that took up a 1/4 of their yard with skids and 4x4's (pallets) to stack boxes of tile on. It was for garbage pick up.
On closer inspection I noticed stamps burned into the 4x4's. Columbia, Argentina, BrAZIL...ETC ETC.
The 4x4's were exotic species of Hondoran cherry, walnut...etc etc..some woods I had no idea what the hell it was but was as heavy as an armored tank and just as dense. the colors and grains were breathtaking...and it was for the taking.
Loaded up my van.
Check your local tile supplier...I'm sure its the same where you live.

I really like that . The thing about a coffee table is that it doesnt have to match anything if its the center of attention in the floor . Rock on.
Tim
Well to be honest I haven't made anything out of the lumber yet...just ideas. Yeh, I have time to build a coffee table. If I could find my tablesaw under all the sawdust.
Actually, I took apart someones hot tub about ten years ago and have been shlepping the redwood around with me from house to house.
About 30-5/4 x 4' x 6" very seasoned redwood planks I'll saw to 3/4" x3"planks, that WILL finally get used to build me a decorative three sided picket fence in front of my house to enclose wildflowers in the spring.
I know if I toss something, I'll need it the next day. Never fails.
Be stockpiled...or ...if in doubt throw it out?

Stockpiled works for me. Lots of room helps. For instance, there're at least 2 spare pump pressure tanks here. I figure that anything that might save me a trip into town is worth keeping around.
Even so, I burn a lot of small stuff from my woodlot others might save. Walnut in the stove now. Had a nice walnut scrap, 14/4x12x65, that just got turned into a window for a client. Ran out of redwood. PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!

Well, I didn't really score, but I saw agreat deal for someone who needed a saw.
The local Lowes was closing out the Dewalt 12" sliders. Normally around 600 clams, going for just a shade over 400. New, in the box, with all warranties intact.
Unless you're the lead dog, the view just never changes.
You asked:
I have two regular frame crews, and started a new home. We poured the slab, and I was ready for the framer. Problem, neither of my crews have generators. We usually have a Tpole set, but this house is 720' from the road. The power company needed a legal easement granted and 3-6 weeks for construction.
I contacted both of my framing crews, and was going to check on renting a heavy duty generator. Problem, both crews are backed up with a current homes and two to follow for other builders.
I hate to use new subs, but noticed a crew close to my jobsite using generators. I checked their frame and cornice work and it looked real good. I contacted the boss, hired them and he has already stood walls and will have joist on tommorrow. I checked the project this AM and it is looking good.
SCORE: In negotiations I asked him to give me a price for frame, cornice and deck. My framer(s) would charge me $4.50 per SF, and I would furnish all clips, straps, hold downs, nails to meet Texas Windstorm Code, or about $1,200.00 in windstorm material. This new framer's price is $3.50 per SF and said he would furnish all of the windstorm items.
He is hispanic, born in the states and in school for a degree in Architectural Engineering. I think I will call him Pancho Claus.
4360 SF @ $1.00 per SF savings and he is supplying $1,200.00 in windstorm materials. A total SCORE of $5,560.00......meet me at the Woodshed Tavern...I am buying.

Ill have a dark beer and TX is catchin it . <G>

No problem, but be my guest and do not limit yourself to "a beer". With a savings of over 5 gs, we could take a limo home.
Roar.
Last Fri the delivery guy for my main copper supplier called me. Seems one of my competitors ordered a crate of 3x10 copper. Normally, there's 36 sheets in a crate, but this crate had 66. He had to hand unload the 36 sheets and haul back the other 30. Asked me if I wanted the rest - a deal would be made. I was gonna order a crate to be delivered tomorrow, so I took it. Got the call today on the price - they let me have it for cost. Besides the discount, my competitor lost favor with this supplier. If they're low on materials and we both call about the same time, guess who'll get it.

You lucky dog you . <G>
Talk about fallin in your lap.
Then the extra thing doesnt hurt either.
Plus you got 6 sts less than you would have had to pay for right now.
Awsome .
Tim
Is that 3x10 feet? What is the normal price of that much copper?
"When asked if you can do something, tell'em "Why certainly I can", then get busy and find a way to do it." T. Roosevelt
I'm paying $2.79/lb right now plus sales tax and $2/crate fuel surcharge. 3x10 16 oz is 30 lbs a sheet. It was about $2.25/lb a year ago. I've bought nearly 80,000 lbs this year. I get it about as cheap as it can be gotten.Birth, school, work, death.....................http://grantlogan.net/
