Anybody else get an invitation? This is conducted for the IRS to “…guide our efforts to reduce the burden on taxpayers of maintaining and reporting information to the service. Reducing taxpayer burden is a key component of Service efforts to achieve its mission.”
Why do I have this I’m-from-the-government-I’m-here-to-help feeling? It’s voluntary, $40 promised if I take the time to fill out the 11 page form. One Washington, already here, if I don’t.
For our type of reporting, the process is pretty much of a mess. Every year we get letters from the IRS asking for more information or clarification. One year some clerk decided to screw us. Got $100 and came back for another $5k. Our response was “come on out and audit”. Issue got dropped real fast. That was when it was widely reported they were picking on self-employed southerners. Seems we weren’t defending ourselves and were easy pickin’s.
Somehow sending a bunch more info to the gov’t doesn’t strike me as necessarily in my best interest. We were “statistically selected”. Non-political thoughts?

So which is it? IBM? IRS? Both?
Came with a letter from both. IBM for the IRS.

Vatom, statistically speaking ,the IRS audits sole proprietors that file scedule c's at a much higher ratio than any other entity. Additionally, some business classifications are targeted becaue of known tax avoidance schemes.
Handling audits yourself, without professional representation is probably not a good idea. Sending in tax returns prepared by non professionals probably puts you into a higher audit probablity bracket.
Are you by any chance a sole proprietor that does his own taxes?

Warning! Be cautious when taking any framing advice from me. Although I have a lifetime of framing experience, all of it is considered bottom of the barrel by Gabe. I am not to be counted amongst the worst of the worst. If you want real framing information...don't listen to me..just ask Gabe!

Close, but no cigar. Haven't submitted a schedule C for 20 yrs. Schedule C is what they'd like to see.
I had no intention of experiencing an audit without representation. Kinda like the attorney who represents himself and has a fool for a client.
I gather you also didn't get the questionaire.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
