Until Taunton published Fine Appliance Repair, this seems like the best place to ask.
Got a frig with ice maker and cubes and crushed. I’ve had a recurring problem where whenever we lose water for the day or whatever (old pipes in the Asheville water system) the 6″ pex hose that feeds water to the ice-making component comes loose from it’s seating (friction fit only) and allows water to leak down into the freezer compartment. I see the icicles in a day or two, defrost the freezer, re-seat the tube, and resume life as normal.
This time, for the first time, I’m having problems after doing this. Somehow, after getting either cubes or crushed ice, the ice not dropped into the glass seems to be freezing to the blades that crush it. The next time we use the ice maker, because the ice is pinched in there, the blades can’t get momentum to start turning, and neither crush nor dispense ice. Ticking my wife off royally.
I’ve pulled the holder and dispenser out many times to clear it and look for anything amiss, and I don’t see anything. Temps are set to where they were before. The freezer and frig are operating as before. The think makes ice cubes properly and they aren’t sticking together in the storage bin. They’re just jamming in the blades and they weren’t before.
Got any ideas on what to look at next?

Switch out the PEX to copper. Heck Pex isn't even Code here.

Let me say "plastic". Just good ol' GE side-by-side. I was too glib saying PEX--I don't know it's exact composition. That's at the backside of the ice maker. The jambs are at the front side, right where it comes out the little shoot.
As far as the tubing coming off it should have a spring clip on it. If you can't find one at a hardware store try an auto parts store.
I don't have any suggestions on the problem with the crushere freezing up. There migh might be a heating element that is out or disconnected. That should show in the wiring diagram that is included with the manuals.
Also you might try calling the GE answer center.
