I’ve misplaced my FHB issue #148. I’m looking for info on the cordless impact drivers surveyed in the issue. I’m partial to the Makitas and want to know the mikita model that was highly rated. Or if anyone has a suggestion based on their experince, with another brand, I would appreciate your advise.

Good luck with your search....while I dont have my model # handy, I do know that it is the same Makita that rated highly in FHB. So far I`m not overly impressed with the tool. First and foremost I hate the "T" handle. I`ve never owned a drill in the past with anything other than the "pistol grip", but I`ve used others from time to time. I never felt comfortable controlling a driving tool from below as opposed to from behind, and my feelings havent changed as yet. On the plus side the minimal weight of the tool is a nice feature. (Although except for when I have to lugg my 12" miter saw around, tool weight has never been an issue) I`ve been told it takes several battery drainages and recharges before tool holds a lasting charge, but I`ve charged both batteries at least a half dozen times, and they dont seem to last all too long. I have used the tool for about a month, mostly for heavy duty stuff.(Nothing my cordless drill driver hasnt been asked to accomplish in the past) Perhaps on some lighter duty chores I`ll have more success. Good luck with your queary, I`ll be checking in on your feedback!

Thanks JAYBIRD, I hadn't give the "T" handle much thought, like you I'm use to the pistol stlye grip. I'll give the makita driver a try and let ya know.
Waldo--
Makita 6914 DWBE--2 NiMh batteries & case included.
I might have a different model than Jaybird, but I'm thrilled with mine.
Mine gets extensive use installing cabinets, and I won't hardly use the old DeWalt cordless drills for screw driving anymore. The best thing in my opinion is the ability to drive screws with a minimum of pressure on the screw head. I use square drives, and i can now drive screws through cabinets well over my head with wrist cocked without stripping the head. Also used it recently with a 3/8" square drive socket wrench adapter to put together a kid's swingset/ playhouse kit. Made things go much quicker.
Go out and buy one. I think you'll be quite happy with it.

thanks for info, that's the one I was considering, toolcribe has it and a reviewer stated he was most pleased. He also said buy it at Home depot, it was cheaper there. I'm going tomorrow to find out. thanks again
Waldo- I own the older model of Makita and have used the Hitachi and the Dewalt as well. In my opinion the hitachi and the Makita are competitive, the Dewalt is too cumbersome. My buddy Ted has the latest version of the Makita - I believe it to an improvement. I have had mine rebuilt and have burnt through 4 batteries in its 10 year life so far. From hanging commercial sheet metal roofing and trim to installing cabinets, this tool has allowed me to out perform and out produce stronger, larger and more cocky individuals every time. Now lets stop talking about it.
