Hello All,
I just wanted to let you all know about a problem that appears to be happening here on Breaktime. It appears that users are having problems getting into the forums when using their tried and true bookmarks or Favorites. We have not figured out why this is happening but what I would suggest is that if you have trouble, trying using this URL to get access to the forums.

Any feedback you care to provide on this might should help us to resolve the problem but in the meantime if you are having problems please bear with us as we are working on it. As always you can reach me at [email protected]
Thanks Mark

Well heres an update: It appears that the problems are somehow associated with AOL users. If you are having problems some info that might help me to understand and trouble shoot this would be:
What version of AOL are you using? Have you recently upgraded? Have you recently added any kind of pop up blockers or Firewalls? This info will help out a lot so feel free to either email me or post here.
Even more important is if your having this problem but are not using AOL that info would be extremely helpful.

FYI: No problems at all.
An AOL 8.0 user (old computer will not support 9.0 upgrading), with pop-up protections and slow land phone lines.
Hope this helps weed the problems out.
Good luck to you!
Mark, after I upgraded to AOL 9.0, I could not log in to the forums as I did before. Contacted AOL, and we checked to see if I could get in via Internet Explorer, w/ AOL minimized. That worked ok (and I'm sticking w/ that method at least until after the holidays). The AOL [online] customer service guy told me that "the AOL Adapter connects AOL to Internet Explorer on your computer. If the adapter becomes damaged it can affect AOL's host-based features and access to the web...the bad adapter can be removed, and AOL will automatically build a new one."
To "fix" it (in my case the fix did not work), he told me to close AOL, got to Windows taskbar, click Start, point to Programs (or All Programs), point to America Online, and select AOL System Information. When the System Information window comes up, click the Utilities tab. Then, click Clear Browser cache [I think it was reading as empty], then click Uninstall AOL Adapter, and then click close. Restart the computer, and try signing onto AOL. I did this procedure twice, and wasn't able to open Taunton via AOL's My Favorites bookmark either time. Unfortunately, I can't remember if I tried simply typing the Taunton address into the AOL URL address line. Going in via IE has worked perfectly. I've not cleared any cookies using Windows commands.I've run Zone Alarm Pro for my firewall since well before upgrading the AOL, and am running Windows ME. I have my AOL pop-up blocker activated.
And yes, I know, I should've gotten back w/ AOL, but the holidays were biting at my heels (excuses, excuses), and well, as long as IE was doing its job, I haven't worried about it too much..

Mark, you and I went round this a couple weeks ago when my bookmark sent me to the sign in page but after typing in my password and hitting enter...........woke up on a "not a known member" page. I upgraded to aol 9 quite a while ago, have had free zone alarm for longer. This problem surfaced only a couple weeks ago. Since changing to the link you provided, no problem signing on. Thank you. Coming in through the mag or even over the garden gate was interesting. Never did try sewing. You knew the problem, just thought I'd put this up for those who might be experiencing trouble getting in.Remodeling Contractor just outside the Glass City.

Thanks all for the feedback on this, hopefully we will have this resolved shortly.
Calvin, At the time you and I where working on this you where the only user having a problem that I was aware of. Since then I have received numerous emails regarding this so it appears that something has changed recently that is causing this problem. Now I just need to figure out what and find a solution...

Sounds like this started about the same time as prospero added the new cookies.

Mark since we have your attention -
I don't think this is releated but I recently converted from IE to Mozilla (using cable to access.)
Every now and again, I have tourble posting - hit the Post button and get the Win hourglass- I'll click on the Mozilla Stop button and repeat - soetimes that works, sometimes it takes 2 or three tries.
No biggie, but FYI.
For example, this post - it hung for at least 1 1/2 minutes (started timing after about 1/2 min - ran the rwatch to 60 sec) then STOP and on the 2nd POST it went thru.

Tool Donations Sought
I'm matching tool donors to a church mission to Haiti - we're shipping a bus converted to a medical facility in January (we hope) and can fill it with clothes, tools and all sorts of stuff needed in that poorest of all countries. A few hand tools or power tools can provide a livelihood for an otherwise destitute family. Please email me if you have tools to donate.
Thanks to Jeff and David and Jim for their offers!

Bob,
Thanks for that info, I will look into that further as soon as we resolve this other problem. What happens when you click again without hitting the stop button?
You should know that you can always reach me at [email protected] for any and all issues that you have regarding the forums or our website for that matter. The "door is always open".

This is all very odd. The desktop, where I am now, runs aol 8, and has not given any problems (I don't go through aol, though, I use a favorite in IE--always have).
The laptop has aol 9, and has never had a hiccup--but then again, I use IE there too--aol is only for the email. Earthlink is only a (an alleged) aol price increase away, though.
I've had some lockups lately, waiting on Prospero to open an image or change topic. But in all fairness, each time I was using the "down" time to do at least two other things (like sending email, playing FreeCell, etc.)
Hope the info helps.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
>>What happens when you click again without hitting the stop button?
Nothing
It's as if it has frozen on the screen except the Stop icon still works.
Again, no biggie - but if you get really bored sopke afternoon and are worried the boss might be coming down the hall and you don't want him to see you playing solitaire or sumthin' {G}

Solitare? We are web geeks we have much better games than that...{G}SYSOP[email protected]
Like "Pie Bill Gates?"
I just noticed that when an attempt to post hangs, if I click again on the "post" button, it does its little "this button has been depressed" image switch thing ("onclick?") but the posting function itself doesn't work.
For awile, a month or two ago (before I switched to Mozilla and was using IE - 6.0.2600.000[and some crep) I was having trouble posting at times, and had gotten into the habit of CTRL:+A selecting and CTL+C copying to the clipboard to save a copy in case my post was lost as was happening from time to time) but for me, that problem has disappeared.
My OS is XP Home, and my Mozilla is 1.5

I have the same problem. Click on anything and half the time it just hangs. Click stop and try again. Have had to retry up to (at least) six times to get prospero to complete the down load.
I'm using Netscape 4.51 and ME. Plan to change from ME, probably to XP in near future because after approx 44 minutes I no longer have online access and a relatively short time thereafter system slows so much that the cursor moves when it feels like it and the start button responds about 2 minutes after click. Having to restart the computer every 45 minutes to be online sucks.
I have the same problem as Bob.
Sometimes in selecting new messages or selecting reply, but those are would usually go on the 2nd or rarely require the 3rd try.
But the real problem is in posting a message.
At times it has been so bad that I have not bothered trying to reply to some message.
It is "somewhat better" since I switched to DSL. Not sure exactly why that would make any difference.
And if the post does not go the first time I alternately hit Esc key to stop and click Post to retry.
If I just wait it might take 10's of seconds or more, but I usually just retry.
Same here on posting delays..using aol 9.0 for BB or Mozilla..hangs fer a good min. or two unless I hit stop page and retry..just in the last week or so...
