To sell my house, I’m having the bathroom floor tiled and the installer simply tiled and grouted around the commode without lifting it. How tacky is that? I imagine that will create future problems if new owners ever need to replace the toilet. Any advise taken to heart. Thanks |

It's tacky and unprofessional. The future problem is exactly what you noted: if the commode is ever repolaced, there's a good chance the footprint will be different, and finding matching tiles will be next to impossible.
If you have not paid him yet, make him come back and do it right. At the very least, collect enough tile so that a decent craftsman can fill in later.

The tilesetter should have either (a) removed the toilet, tiled the whole floor, and reset the toilet, or (b) specified that you were responsible for removing the toilet and reinstalling it. If I were you, I would have initiated (b) on my own, to avoid having a tilesetter extend my toilet flange and reset the toilet. Easy enough, but maybe he's not used to it, in which case you don't want him touching it. You can call in a service plumber for a minimum fee to handle it.
