My HVAC contractor just installed a forced-air system in his office/showroom which sits on a concrete slab. When he told me he had in floor heat I assumed it was a radiant/boiler set-up. I was amazed to find out that he installed PVC ducts in the slab before it was poured (just like pex) and hooked them up to the forced air heating unit. You could easily walk comfortably barefoot on that floor the day I was there (about 14 degrees).
Has anyone ever dealt with or seen another system like this before? I was told that it was very efficient, but I have a hard time believing it. I like the idea though. Being able to add central-air without the extra cost versus a hot water radiant system. Not having to worry about driving nails or drilling holes into water filled pex. Thinking about doing it in a spec home this year. Any suggestions?
