I’m hooking up my in floor radiant heat for the bathroom. It is made by Nuheat. I have many feet of lead cable, the one that is powered by the thermostat and goes under the tile, left over to try to cram in the electrical box. The instructions warn that:
“The electrical ratings label must be fixed to the cold lead and visible at the terminal junction box.”
The label in question is affixed about 3 inches from the end of the wire. Cutting the wire would obviously make the label go away. They never specifically mention that the wire cannot be cut. However, I know from installing a temperature gauge in my car that the accuracy of that guage depended on NOT cutting the wire as somehow the ?resistance? or some aspect of the wire had to be as supplied.
So am I in the same situation here? Or can I cut the wire? If I can’t cut it it is going to be real crowded in the box. The wall is tiled, so no chance of opening up anything for a bigger box.
Thanks

cold lead?
Sound slike you're describing the cold lead. I recommend you call their tech number and ask them. I'm pretty sure (but not positive) it's Nuheat that sells cold lead extensions. The funny part is you can't cut the extension. You have to add the full length of the extension, and if that overall length is too long, you cut the original cold lead shorter.
It can certainly be confusing, and like I wrote, I might be thinking of another manufacturer. Definitely call their tech suport.
Good luck!
