This stone is more than tile, will the floor system handle the added weight?
stone floor
yep ,floor system will handle the weight. firplace has a wood stove set out 18"from the center of the fireplace .surrounded by brick on 3 sides.backside and sides. the stone I wish to put in will be in front of the stove, about 50 square '
Is the fireplace already there and does it have a hearth?
If no hearth existing, this gets complicated. There MUST be a fireproof hearth extending 18" in front and 12" toeach side of the FP openning. Quarry tile over a wood framed floor system does not constitute a fireproof hearth, only a fireproof surface.
If this is merely decorative for a gas FP, then you are OK, depending on what structure there is to support the weight. What framing system and what subfloor material is there under the proposed ?
stone floor
thanks for the reply. there is a wood stove set out 18" from center of fireplace surrounded by a brick floor on 3 sides, back n sides. the stone will be in front of the stove aprx. 50 square '.subfloor is plywood n the floor system is all set to handle the weight.
