I’m building a new home which includes a solarium area that will be on a slab. I want to incorporate a small pond/water garden. Would it be better to incorporate the pond into the concrete pour or should I use a “drop-in” unit and pour the slab around it? I would use a commercial pond liner and underlayment to line a concrete unit. I currently have clean sand/gravel for tamped fill under the slab site. I appreciate your feedback.

I just put the goldfish in the toilet and bath tub..easier to change the water.

I think for flexibility I wouldnt pour it altogether with the floor.Ive done several pond and always ended up tinkering with them later . The ability to change or modify later is what keeps them interesting and not just some gurgling puddle of algae hohumming away.
Thats great, but I'm not doin it. I use the tub, remember? <G>

Is the kid ever going to be PO'd when I tell her what you did with her pet goldfish....
Nuthin'll save ya now...
Who ever invented work didn't know how to fish....
Funny thing , when I had an outdoor fish pond..complete with pollywogs and goldfish, my dog would surf along blowin bubbles out his snout and suckin up the tadpoles and fish..sorta like a pool skimmer..hilarious, unless you were the tadpole.

The drop-in unit will be better from the point of view of the fish and plants -- a concrete pool would leach salts into the water and take much longer to be fish-friendly.

For some reason almost every Chinese restaurant I build gets one. Usually a lay of block for the walls parged over with mortar. I prefer the pond liners but normally it is done with a swimming pool paint meant to hold in the water. I finished one about 6 months ago they used UGL drylock as a sealer. So far so good. Not my choice but I came back on the Job on a Monday & it was done. time will tell.
