Posted this over on cooks talk, might as well post it here too.
Over on Breaktime for Carps they have a wanted/for sale section, did not see it here so will post in this section.
I would like to find another induction cooktop, broken is OK, willing to pay $200 for a broken one even plus shipping.
Have an old Kenmore induction, found out they quit making them ’cause they all failed. Well, being an EE, found the trouble was the mylar touch pad would melt thru if a hot pot was set on the edge trim. After my fix, it has not failed in the last 6 years.
Fixed the one we have by totally re- engineering the touch pad, so that is why a broken one is OK.
DIL really wants one, the Grandkids love to cook at our house on the induction cooktop as very safe for burns, even deep fat frying in a low skillet is safe from fire hazards, if not scalding and splashes. At their house, they have gas, elec, and vented grill, none of which the kids are interested in using as all 4 have gotten burnt (3 YO to 10 YO).
Looked on ebay, all they have there is single pot units, want a 4 or 5 ‘burner’ unit, counter drop in type.
PS: if you want me to fix your old one, I’ll tell you how, but you could not afford for me to do it? ” Some” mechanical and electrical skill required.
Thanks for any responses.
