I just read the article and was surprised enough by the miss information to post a comment.
no flashing or air barrier above the door
no silicone above the head or down either side behind the brickmold
using framing reveals to set a piece of finish wworker
relying on factory set brickmolds to hold your center hinge in line
All in all that’s a poor way to set a door, thanks for helping people around the country due it wrong. Best part of article is the end that mentions he is a former carpenter, at least it will just be his house that has a leaky and poorly swinging door.

I do not get the magzine so dn't have your point of reference, but silicone is for sinks anbd bathtubs. I never use it anywhere near a door. geocell or other caulks are far better
