Installing 4X8 Ply-Bead Sheets to Porch Ceiling

They are both equal in strength to hold up the plywood. I think nails are better for appearance myself. 2" or 2 1/2" screws or nails are sufficient. Make sure they are weather resistant because moisture will condense on the heads. I'd probably use siding nails, ring shank or spiral shank.
If you don't want to invest in a nailgun setup, you can use deck screws to attach it to the rafters, then fill the scre heads with putty befor you paint.
Deck screws?
holy cow, you sure worry about earthquakes there out west.

I've been trying to figure what sort of fastener it takes to hold a 5'8" thick piece of beadboard. I don't think I've ever seen a ring-shank nail that long.
ringshank
Ringshank nails are available fo my Hatchi N83 coil nailer in both 8d and 16d lengths. Been using them for 20 years or more. Can get them CC or Galv.
Yeah, but you'd need a 6 foot nail to hang them mothas.

Don't mess wid him.
Ya oughta see is hammer arm!
Thanks Mark, I will probably use the spiral nails, as I have a nail gun. I just wasn't certain which was best.
Take care.
Screws
Look at this website, screwsolutions.com. The star-drive trim-head screws, 2", will be perfect. They come in stainless steel (ocean climates) or exterior bronze.
