Installing/finishing DW without TOOLS

BillHartmann | Posted in General Discussion on August 31, 2007 05:45am

Add in today’s paper from everyone’s favor Orange Store.

For Sheetrock (r) MOld Tough ™ DW. “Teated with active mold inhibitors on the paper face and in the core.”

Looks like it is their new version of “green” board.

But then it says;

“Installs and finishes easily – no extra tools needed.”

.
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.

For some reason I was thinking DishWasher, & was curious how to install one without tools. ;-)

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,

it is the taxpayer who pays the soldiers' salary

      1. plumbbill | Aug 31, 2007 10:24am | #3

        That would be correct.

But how many paying their taxes actually die from that?

people die in their jobs every day earning money to pay their taxes

            Yup people die every day.

Are you saying people work so they can pay taxes, or do people work so they can feed their family, & taxes are just a part of life?

i guess i'm saying that because of the military there is an income tax, so we have to work harder and sacrifice more to support the military. Also if it weren't for the ministers and reporters, activists, poets, artists et al life would not be worth living anyway. Soldiers are also a tool of oppression and a lot of people have fought the establishment that soldiers represent in order to change the way things are. It's not like Jesus had the IDF backing him up :)
Also, Soldiers kill a lot of innocent people too.

So they're actually saying that it won't justify any new tool purchases?? Who wants that??

Yes. It's a package deal: 10 sheets of drywall and two dumb apprentices, all shrink-wrapped for delivery.

Here I was hoping for some expert, well thought out advice (that I come to expect from this forum) on the topic of achieving the "Happy Ending" with my wife without the use of "Marital Aids"!

I saw factory asembled homes going to the Gulf area that were sheetrocked without any nails or screws. The walls are laid out on a flat table over the DW, and poly foam is shot along each side of the studs.

These homes were 3 piece units, two halves as a base module and a roof then capped the marriage wall and tied it all together. Pretty damm cool actually. Every fastner was either RS nails or screws, and every connection was also glued, prior to being mechanically tied.

I seem to recall that for about a 1500 sqft ( maybe m.O.l) 400+ lbs of fastners and 600lbs of adhesives were used.  All OSB sheathing was glued and nailed.

    LOL

    Point taken.

I'm not sure Billy knows about the tavern, or maybe he's not familiar with my taglines.

I'm not going to be keeping this one very long, not that I don't like discussing the virtue of my taglines. It's this one is very long, & I was not expecting it to take up that much space.

I have been scratchin me arse and wondering why drywall makers don't come up with a product that has a dense foam or similar on the bottom 3 or 4 inches. Something to stop wicking up the bottom edge. And why all the fuss over paper? Why not a smooth plastic bonded to the paper as a moisture barrier? Such a mundane product could use even more technology.http://www.etherhuffer.typepad.com

          2. DanH | Sep 02, 2007 09:55pm | #20

Because you'd have to have the special area on the cut end, fouling up the manufacturing process, or else install the rock horizontally and ship two different kinds, lower and upper.Would make sense to make the rock an inch narrower, letting you install two sheets horizontally and still have room for a 2" strip of something like composite decking at the bottom. Or you could install vertically and trim the sheets that much. But any trimming really slows down the rocking.

What kind of joint compound would you plan on using on top of plastic?

Seems to me that a more logical approach would be to eliminate face paper altogether if they're so all-fired worried about a few mould spores. Just extrude plaster in tapered-edged sheets, with FG reinforcing cloth in 'em.

I am thinking a plastic membrane under the paper.http://www.etherhuffer.typepad.com

            Dinosaur | Sep 03, 2007 11:02pm | #24

In that configuration, I can't see what good the plastic membrane would do.

Your idea would still leave the paper exposed, and that, according to the scare-tactic ads being run by a certain gypsum board company, is equivalent to inviting every mould spore in the known universe to come and eat your house.

So why not eliminate the paper entirely?
