I going to be doing my first cedar shingle roof using #1 perfections. What is the layout for the perlins. This is for a roof of an unheated outbuilding so no weather guard is necessary. Do I plywood the overhangs and then start with perlins? Spacing? Help

The purlin spacing centers equals the shake reveal. You'll need to double up or use a wider 1x at the eave. When you decide what the overhang is you can determine where the nails in the first course go. Center the rest of the purlins at your shake reveal.
Good luck.
Its never too late to be up to date.
