Hi All, I have a customer who I have done work for many years from cabinetry to drywall even some electrical. They would like me to change their garage doors. The doors are no more then 10 years old and have cheap masonite panels. The hardware looks in great shape. They are interested in a viynl embossed door. The garages are single car doors.Should I even entertain the thought of doing the job or should I leave it to the people that do it everyday? Thanks for your advice in advance.

I can spend 3-400 dollars of my own labour or have it done by a specialist sub for $150 on the first, and $125 on the rest if stacked up for the same day.

Oh yeah - the last time I changed one out myself, I nearly lost a finger in the spring/pulley mechanism.
I did get to see a whole new rainbow of colours pass through that finger during the next week or so.

Much better to sub that one out.
Not all that difficult, but the people who do it day in day out are really hard to beat $ wise.
I had my own hung recently rather than take the time myself and I have done them probably a dozen times over the yrs.

If you do it your self consider the weight difference in the two doors, your springs/torsion bar may need to be modified.
I'd probably sub it out if it were me though!

Most times the door installer will go back new with everything, including rails and spring. Just had mine replaced.
The way they put the panels together, the rails and the spring are the last itmes installed.
Sub it out.
