I want to lay a prefinished hardwood floor in a cottage that is located in southern Ontario Canada that is not winterized. The floor is currently resilient tile and is in very good condition. I am wondering what precautions I need to take in order to lay this floor. The outside temperature would be around 10 celsius or 50 farenheit. The only source of heat is from a fireplace if this matters.

ya, now that the election hostilities have calmed down a bit just thought to touch on these old posts to keep us reminded where we all came from.

remove any non plywood substrate.
provide at least a 3/4" Plywood Underlayment
put a vapor barrier under the floor
ventilate the crawl-space
use a Hardwood that is pre finished on ALL sides and ends.
be prepared to live with shrinkage gaps that will be most severe near the fireplace.
