I am looking for help on installing hardrock maple butcher block countertops. Never done it before. Am looking for:
the best ways to join pieces where they butt together & does it differ if cut on the diagonal?
best way to seal joints
best way to attach to base cabinets
what are the most likely pitfalls & aggravations I will run into (other than the fact that the stuff weighs a ton!)
Thanks!

Installing these should be fairly easy. If possible you should use a draw bolt to pull any joints together. This is a bolt with two loose flanges on each end that fits into a rout on the underside of the counter. The route would look like a bow tie and the flanges hook into each end and pull the two halves together.
If you want a mitered seam a local shop can make that cut for you and rout the slots for the draw bolts. I might also put in a few loose biscuits to help with alignment.
To seal the seam use silicone caulk spread in the joint before putting the two halves together.
Use screws through the corner blocks in the cabinets to anchor the counter in place. Predrilling of course to prevent any splitting.
