Installing Subfloor during a Remodel
Hello all,
We are in the process of renovating a home and need some advice. The subfloor was cut out upon our arrival due to damage that existed as a result of wear and tear that has accumulated over the last 50 years.
The floors are being replaced with 3/4″ plywood. All the floor joists are on 16″ centers. Our problem is related to understanding the best way to lay out the subfloors because the rim joists are not exposed due to the existing walls. The room is approximately 16’x10′ and we’re going lay the full sheets in the center of the room and roughly 8″-10″ cut pieces at the perimeter of the walls. Only problem we have is the edges closest the perimeter can’t get screwed every 6″ because the plywood couldn’t get cut back to the rim joist.
How should we properly resolve this issue to ensure there will not be a lot of deflection in the subfloor and finished floor?
We will be installing hickory pre finished nail down hardwood after the subfloor is secured properly.
Thanks in advance !

install blocking to catch the unsupported edges of your new plywood. Between and to the joists where possible and slipped under the existing sheathing where there are no joists. Glue and screw to the old sheathing so part of it lays under the new you are adding.
This
What Calvin said.
Flat 2x4 blocking
You don't have to install the blocks upright. Lay them flat so you have more area under the seam.
Flat.......
And with whatever you have laying around.
