Hi! I’m currently remodelling my bathroom on a shoestring budget. We have a faux marble counter top and sink installed right now. We plan on cutting out the bowl of the sink that is there now, and we would like to tile over the counter and install a drop-in bowl sink. Has anyone had experience installing tile over faux marble? Will the mortar adhere to the faux surface? Is there any special considerations that I should know about? Thanks.

If you're going to cut the top anyway, why not just remove the whole thing and start with plywood base. Additional expense ($30) easily offset by time saved messing with the faux top.
Can't say if you'd have trouble sticking tile to faux. Maybe use mastic and scatch it up good with 50 grit paper.
ditch the top, plywood and cement board are cheap.
and if you're doing only a small vanity, the local box stores here sell half and quarter sheets of ply so you can save on that a little.
one other thing... what you are going to do about the little bump on the edge of the old top, and I'm guessing this about 1/2" maybe 5/8" thick fake marble, how are you going to tile the leadint edge? and one more question... did the old top have an inteagraded bowl? if you cut that out, the top probably isn't strong enough to support the new bowl you're dropping into it.
that's a lot of assumptions about your project, but for 30-40 or so bucks worth of material you'd be much better off.
